Heat pumps – heat and cool using natural energy

It's actually very simple. Just like a fridge. A fridge extracts heat from foodstuffs and releases it into the surroundings. A heat pump extracts heat from your surroundings and conducts it to where it is needed: in your home. To produce 100% heat output, a heat pump requires around 15 to 25% electricity. The rest is free, natural heat from its surroundings.

How much power a heat pump requires and how high the electricity costs are depends on a number of factors. How many people live in the household and use hot water? Are you setting your thermostat to 19 or 24 degrees Celsius during the winter? How well insulated is your home? What type of heat pump is used? What is the weather like?

Depending on the size, power and heat pump type, the noise emission differs. From a barely audible 29 dB(A) at a distance of 1 metre to a moderately loud 60 dB(A). Today, the typical water pumps for a family home are quieter than some fridges and often barely audible. In the case of externally installed heat pumps, there are legal requirements that must be met. The heat pump must be a certain minimum distance from the next property. The installation site is also important. The noise emitted by a heat pump varies depending on whether it is mounted on the wall or is free-standing.

A heat pump has a service life of 15 to 25 years. We are also aware of some that have been working for 40 years; in which case, we recommend replacing the unit with a more energy-efficient one. A special feature of the ground source heat pump is that the thermal probe has a service life of up to 80 years.

Heat pump heating systems work in almost all building types. Even in those with radiators. Is your building very old and not yet adequately insulated? Then we recommend that you initially invest in a building envelope (walls, roof, windows).
