Air source heat pump in converted building

The former Bleiken community centre today houses three rental apartments, a fire station and some school facilities. Its old oil-fired heating system has been replaced with a modern air/water heat pump supplied by CTA.

Where the oil tank used to be, there is now plenty of space - and the indoor unit of the heat pump with accessories.

Replacing the oil-fired heating system

A large, empty room. Previously, up to 11,000 litres of heating oil were stored here. The average annual consumption was 6,600 litres. Now, an air/water heat pump from the Münsingen-based heat pump manufacturer CTA provides pleasant room temperatures and hot running water. The new heating system uses air as a renewable energy source and managed to reduce CO2 emissions by around 92 percent.

Individual heating controls remain unchanged

The new heat pump still enables the separate control and operation of the three existing heating groups – the apartments, the community premises and the multi-purpose rooms. What’s new is that the domestic hot water is now also heated by the heat pump. Previously, this was done by a solar thermal system with a combined storage unit, which is now being dismantled to create space for a photovoltaic system.

This is where the oil tank used to be; today, there’s a heat pump designed and manufactured in Switzerland.

A quiet and efficient heat pump

The local heating engineer chose the CTA Aeroheat Inverta SCI heat pump because of the requisite output and low noise level of just 41°dB(A) at a distance of 1 metre. The two-part heat pump design with the ventilator in the external unit an d the compressor in the internal unit further reduces the noise level. This high-performance heat pump using the more climate-friendly R-32 coolant was developed by the Swiss family business in 2021. It can be used in many locations, is easy to install and suitable for both new builds and as a replacement system. It is ideal for use in cities, anywhere where space is at a premium and where noise emissions need to be kept to a minimum.

Two types of air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps are installed on building exteriors or interiors. External units have a pipe that leads inside. Internal units require two air ducts: one to draw in the air, and another to release it back into the environment.

In safe hands

Choosing a CTA heat pump means opting for a high-quality, durable product. Even though heat pumps are generally considered low-maintenance, regular servicing and checks are required to maintain their perfect and low-cost performance in the long run. For newly installed heat pumps, experts recommend taking out our «CTAplus» extended warranty. This comprehensive protection offers cover for up to 12 years from commissioning. Alternatively, or even after the «CTAplus» expires, we offer a flat-rate service contract that we, a family-run company with Swiss-based production, offer for all heat pumps.

Very quiet

We chose this heat pump because it’s extremely quiet and delivers exactly the performance we need. The fact that the manufacturer is just around the corner makes it all the better.
