Heat pump for the Cuxhaven water tower

Cuxhaven’s historic water tower has been renovated and given a new lease of life. The real challenge: fitting a modern heating system into a building from 1897. Today, a CTA heat pump ensures comfortable room temperatures in the café and in the holiday apartments.

A historic jewel given a new use

The Cuxhaven water tower characterises the image of the North Sea region. It featured in the SRF TV series “Auf und davon” and was renovated with care by the Caboussat family. They transformed it into a real jewel with a café and holiday apartments – a place of relaxation with a wide, panoramic view.

The challenge: replacing the heating system

The existing gas heating system was to be replaced with a sustainable solution. At the same time, the building presented special challenges: the tower is situated around 300 metres from the sea, and there is often a powerful north-westerly wind blowing. For this reason, the air/water heat pump “Aeroheat Videa CV” was placed on the side protected from the wind. Flexibility was also required in the basement: as the space measures just 170 cm from floor to ceiling, two compact hot water storage tanks were used instead of one large boiler.

Energy efficiency and high flow temperatures

High flow temperatures are required for heating systems and hot water. The “Aeroheat Videa CV” is ideal for this – it reaches flow temperatures of up to 70 °C and is especially efficient with a very high SCOP of 5.3.

Fantastic collaboration

“Clear workflows and good working relationships – we really appreciated the prompt, professional and uncomplicated implementation.”

Coordinated and solution-driven

The project is an excellent example of how the quality of a heating solution depends on the interplay of all elements – from the PV system to the heat pump control to the energy management system – and also on the coordinated activities of all parties involved: the installer, building owner, heat pump supplier and PV provider all working together to make the optimal solution possible.

Two types of air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps are installed on building exteriors or interiors. External units have a pipe that leads inside. Internal units require two air ducts: one to draw in the air, and the other to release it back into the environment.

In safe hands

Choosing a CTA heat pump means opting for a high-quality, durable product. Even though heat pumps are generally considered low-maintenance, regular servicing and checks are required to maintain their perfect and low-cost performance in the long run. For newly installed heat pumps, our experts recommend taking out a ‘CTAplus’ extended warranty. This comprehensive protection offers cover for up to 12 years after commissioning. Alternatively, or even after your ‘CTAplus’ expires, we offer a flat-rate service contract for all heat pumps. We are a family-run Swiss company with production facilities in Switzerland.
